Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of development of consciousness in Kashmir ?aivism and to figure out the characteristics of transformation of consciousness by purifying the three spiritual impurities(mala) through the spiritual autobiography by Swami Muktananda. Swami Muktananda portrayed the main phenomena manifested by the purification of the spiritual impurity that is blocking the development of consciousness with four inner lights: red, white, black and blue. At the stage of the red light appeared various physical kriyas and visions and extraordinary desires that take place in the gross body(stula sarira) which appeared in the process of purification of karma mala. At the stage of white light, it is connected to the purification of mayiya mala which is connected to the subtle body(sushukma sarira). At the stage of black light, it is connected to the purification of anava mala, the spiritual impurity of the causal body. The main characteristics of the three types of purification of spiritual impurity and the various experiences of consciousness that are experienced in the purification of spiritual impurity were suggested.
